General Pests
Cockroaches are one of the most common pests we encounter. They are primitive insects that have been around for over 300 million years and are known to inhabit tropical and sub-tropical areas. There are over 3,000 species of cockroaches, but only a few have become pests by adapting to living with humans. Cockroaches are omnivores and can contaminate food and surfaces with their presence. They are nocturnal and are rarely seen during the day, but signs of infestation can include egg cases, regurgitation marks, faecal pellets, and a distinctive odour.
Their life cycle begins with mating, followed by the female laying eggs in a purse-shaped egg case. The young cockroaches, or nymphs, emerge and go through several molts as they grow. They can breed prolifically, with some species capable of producing up to 20,000 offspring in a year. Female cockroaches can even produce young without mating, a process called parthenogenesis.
Cockroach Control
Successful cockroach control involves Integrated Pest Management (IPM), starting with a thorough inspection of the premises to identify the species and the extent of the infestation. This includes identifying harbourage areas, implementing sanitation practices, and using traps and other control methods. By understanding the life cycle and habits of cockroaches, we can develop a program tailored to each property's unique needs.
