Our History

Our journey began when Basil Fox and Ian Hay founded Fox Hay Timber & Hardware in 1954. Initially, we were located in Beach Street, Port Melbourne, and our primary focus was manufacturing wooden boxes and crates for the canning, soft drink, and other industries. However, as cardboard began to replace wood in the food packaging business, we had to diversify. We started wholesaling timber supplies, specifically furniture ply veneer board and hardwoods, to the furniture manufacturing trade.

By the mid-1990s, we had evolved into a retail timber and materials supplier for the building trade. In May 2000, we moved to a modern warehouse and yard facility in 458 Graham Street, Port Melbourne. Under the direction of Mr. Bruce Fox, we have grown to become one of the most well-known timber suppliers in Melbourne.

Today, we are a major supplier to the film and television set construction industry, display and events companies, as well as builders, renovators, and tradesmen. Our team of friendly staff are experienced, helpful, and knowledgeable, offering advice and assistance with all your building needs.
