Metaxas Architects has been in operation since 1996, and since its inception, the practice has grown significantly, undertaking a diverse range of projects. Our practice has specialist capabilities in Architecture, Urban Design, and Interior Design. Our collaborative approach with cutting-edge collaborators allows us to bring our design dreams to life.

A Brief History of Metaxas Architects

Metaxas Architects began its journey in Queensberry Place, with George Metaxas, founder and director, growing the company significantly. The company relocated to Victoria Street in North Melbourne, where it undertook significant projects such as Market Square development and Atlantis Apartments. In 2018, the practice moved to new offices on Cardigan Street, allowing for the growth and evolution of the company as a small firm with a close-knit team undertaking remarkable projects in Melbourne, China, and beyond.

The Team

Our team consists of experienced professionals, each with their unique skills and expertise. Our team members include George Metaxas, founder and director, Monica Effendy, architectural graduate, Sasha Sivanas, architect, William Zhang, architect, and Elyse Metaxas, creative project manager.

Metaxas History

George Metaxas, founder and director, holds a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the University of Melbourne and is a Registered Architect and an Associate Member of the Australian Institute of Architects. His urban design expertise is reflected in his work on major projects both within Australia and overseas.

Our Principles

We aim to be responsible for the environment and incorporate longevity and durability in our designs. Our global team, with representatives of many races and creeds, strives to uplift migrants and women in our workplace. We also support marginalized communities in their fight for equality and human rights.

Projects in History

At Metaxas, we have a long history of over 21 years of innovative, unique, and creative solutions. Some of our first projects included the Bianchet Winery pavillion, our familial estate in Romsey, St Dimitrios' Church in Moonee Ponds, Steampacket Place in Geelong, the Lily Street Beach House, and the Ardmillain Road house. These projects reflect the Metaxas DNA, featuring high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, iron beams, and unique perspectives.
